None by Jody Genessy. Wonder what the actual height of that jump was? I guess the time at KU didn't make him loyal to Adidas - already rocking vintage Jordans it appears. The top rung of a Vertec device is inches, there appear to be left untouched each one being. That would put him somewhere around a 36 inch jump. The standard max on the Vertec is 12 feet, but do you think they use a standard device for NBA prospects?
I have seen Wiggins dunk with his elbows around rim-height, so I feel like 12 feet isn't unrealistic. In fact, I remember reading an article pre-his time at KU that mentioned his vertical being "too high for the measuring device.
A lot of people are calling it 44 inches, and I did my own relative measurements assuming the outlet covers are standard height of 4. It is over 40 inches for sure. Wiggin's heels are above midpoint on the guy. I was wondering the same thing Kyle. He looks to have the bottom of his feet about waist high on that guy standing there, so maybe 3' give or take? Is that really that big of a deal?
So that guy standing there has 45" legs? The Wiggins hype machine without substance rolls on. Wiggins' heels are at least up to that guys' navel. You can actually see his fore foot raises off the ground as he uses this technique to store energy into his system — particularly his posterior chain hamstrings, low back fascia. His ability to store and release energy very quickly is one of his greatest attributes.
Here is a video of Stefan Holm — notice that he is not a visibly powerful athlete. However, he is able to utilize elastic stored energy very well, because of his incredible motor coordination, utilizing his entire body precisely to achieve is world shocking athleticism.
Video analysis is one tool, but there are limits. All this said, here are some of my observations these points are observable but the relevance of each needs discussion. You may not know who Tyrell Bramwell or who Dan Dearing are.
Tyrell and Dan are both volleyball players with world class jumping ability. Tyrell is recovering from an ACL rupture and repair. Both are coming back better than ever. Here is a picture of Tyrell jumping compared to Andrew. Note the Vertimax is a standardized piece of equipment, meaning that the red stem height is identical with all Vertimaxs. This information is valuable, because look at the height of their knees in relation to the stem height.
I think you can easily see who is higher. Now this is relevant, because how we develop vertical is very, very important because it is the gateway to many components of athleticism — such as sprinting, acceleration, agility, change in direction ability, first step quickness, and most importantly sport performance. How we develop vertical will be explained soon….
I hope you enjoyed the analysis. We will have several exciting announcements to make very shortly — so stay tuned! Previous Next. During a simple counter movement jump, Andrew ops to throw his body into a seemingly out of control position to gain height. Andrew was immediately traded in a three team deal which sent him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. We are certain to see a lot more of Andrew Wiggins in the years to come. Andrew Wiggins vertical leap is one of the top in the NBA.
However, we were able to find other slam dunk contests that he entered and he surely did not disappoint us. Not only do we have some amazing Andrew Wiggins dunks but in high school he went up against some other major league jumpers such as Aaron Gordon and Jabari Parker. We caught up with Andrew Wiggins during the off season at P3 Sports Complex where he was training his vertical leap. He was doing an assortment of drills and heavy weight training to help him increase his explosiveness.
He was there with a fellow Canadian and another big time leaper Vince Carter. As you can see from the photo Vince still has a lot of spring in his step as he as aged. It is partially because of great God given athletic ability and the training exercises they have done at this facility. Some of the training included heavy barbell squats, deadlifts and plyometric box jumps. When doing weighted exercises the team at P3 had Andrew focusing on lifting as heavy of weight as possible and doing no more than 3 sets of 8 reps.
The 8th and final rep was supposed to be very difficult and almost at failure. Doing these exercises to increase your vertical leap makes sense.
They all focus on the major muscle groups that one uses when he is in the jumping motion. The quadriceps will play the biggest role out of all of them. If you are looking to increase your vertical we suggest partnering up with the people over at 40InchVertical. They have a team that will personally coach you to help you achieve the hops you have always wanted.
They have developed a system called The Jump Manual that many NBA teams have begun to implement into their training schedules.
