So, where does all this leave us in relation to making good choices in the bigger decisions of our lives? Firstly, I would like to point out that, often we get used to choosing between available options. You can have 10 flavours of ice-cream on offer and still not be able to choose your favourite.
All you can do is decide between available alternatives, none of which is what you actually want! This methodology seems to fall short, when it comes to choices about the way we live our one life. Real choice involves making a decision based on what our heart desires, and then removing obstacles, until what our heart desires becomes one of our available options.
Your choices decide your fate, and every step you take will determine your destiny. Thus, the power of choice can determine our whole future. Take the time to make the right ones. We all get options in our lives, and we can make choices both knowingly and unknowingly.
Every day is a critical part of our self-development, and each one of the choices you make shapes your experiences and brings you to where you are in your life. Decision-making may not always be challenging; we are making decisions without putting much thought into it.
From waking up in the morning to going to bed. The choices we make every day is our routine, and thus less idea goes into them. However, the circumstances or the people correlated with those choices make it hard because relations and emotions are involved in it.
Just like builders need a blueprint to make a skyscraper, you need a plan to build a righteous life. Write down some of your goals and how you plan to achieve them. Keep that list where you can see it often. Setting goals also makes your choices deliberate and intentional instead of being haphazard, random, or based on circumstances.
How does this really work? And every morning you have the choice to get up for early-morning seminary or to sleep in an extra hour. Which of those choices will help you to reach your goal? Or maybe you have a goal to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the school year.
Then, when you get home from school or before you go to bed, you have the choice of reading your scriptures or doing another activity, like watching your favorite TV show. Which do you choose? Choices like this are before you every day.
